Final Notes, Barry Murphy

Mike Murphy writes to us that his father, Barry Murphy, died on August 15. “He traveled extensively in the US in the early ‘60s, helping people like Ralph Rinzler, whom he had met in London . . . [traveled with] Bill Monroe for a time and even appeared on stage while with Monroe . . . Both his wife and two sons play and write music, and all because of his influence and love. We thank God that we were in his life, and he will remain in ours forever. He was 72, and died with his banjo by his side, at arm’s reach, where it almost always was.”
