Clarence Wayne Jarrell, a familiar friendly face at the Mount Airy Fiddler’s Convention, died on January 6 in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was 83 years old. The son of Tommy Jarrell, Wayne loved old-time music, and was a square dance caller. He served in Army during the Korean War, and spent fifty years working at Jarrell’s General Store. He was a member of Franklin Heights United Methodist Church, and was dedicated to the preservation of old-time music in Surry County. Wayne is survived by his wife Norma Hill Jarrell.
