Final Notes, David Schnaufer

Dulcimer player David Schnaufer, 53, died on August 23 in Nashville, Tennessee, after a long battle with cancer. He was from La Marque, Texas and bought his first dulcimer for $40. After winning several contests, he moved to Nashville to become a session musician. He was also an adjunct associate professor of music at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. He recorded with Johnny Cash and Chet Atkins, among many other musicians in many genres of music. He also recorded several solo albums including Delcimore and Dulcimer Deluxe. Many credit him for bringing the Tennessee music box-dulcimer back from obscurity.
