Final Notes, Fritz Richmond

Fritz Richmond, 66, passed away on November 24. A master of the jug and washtub bass, Fritz was a key figure in the 1960s folk music scene in Boston. He was the house bassist at the Club 47 and played with the influential Jim Kweskin Jug Band. A decade later, he moved to Los Angeles and engineered albums for Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, and others. In 1977, he moved to Portland, OR where he taught recording classes, played in the Metropolitan Jug Band, and with his own band, Fritz Richmond’s Barbecue Orchestra.
